chapels

I know this doesnt look like a misspelt word - as long as you are talking about the chapels meant for Christian worship.
But not when you are referring to a pair of slippers. A shop on Choolaimedu sells leather goods including chapels. Would the shopowner mind not hurting my sentiments and add an extra 'p' at least? Make it chappel, though the Oxford Dictionary lists the word chappal for an Indian sandal.
Unless the shopkeeper has made-to-order chapels for Christendom ...
